about the Mason High School web page

the kids at mason make a very good point that we shouldn’t pick on people because they have to go to a different class. well guess what who ever is reading this. i have something to say. i have to go to a different class. i can’t read or spell like everyone else. so if you pick on people that have to go to get help then come and pick on me if you want to. i might be big and not very smart. but i know what i have to do to look like the rest of you. just listen to people and don’t pick on them if they have to go to another class for something like reading…….

This I Believe response

a. Now I understand how podcasting is used. I didn’t know before that there are people that want to tell their experiences and their thought, and many of them are not really important. Podcasting allows them to do this, since everybody can share their views. The sounds were clean, so that people could understand, and there were no background noises. This puts the listener more in direct contact with the speaker and takes away any possible distraction

b. I listened to “The Strange Blessing that brought me Home”, which attracted me because in this period I always think about my home, and I found it personal, and “Living with Integrity”. In the first one what really impressed me was the sense of freedom that the girl was describing, her being positive, despite the fact that she was talking about hurricane Katrina, and she really brought into her speech with her voice, that sometimes sounded like she was crying. In “Living with Integrity”, I’ve been impressed by the integrity of the man, of course. He explained really well his thought and made me understand things that I ignored.

c. The introduction speech was helpful, because you start getting to know the speaker. It’s like the difference between knowing someone and his name or knowing someone and not knowing his name. In the second case, it’s much more like a stranger. With a little bit of information, then you get really closer to the speaker.

Response to “This I Believe”

The podcasts have really great sound quality. They were a tad bit quiet though.

Response to “This I Believe”

I understand that podcasting is something you can download on your mp3 player from the internet and respond to it. It is like a song because you can do the same thing but you cannot respond to music. You can also listen to the podcast on your mp3 player any time you want just like if you had music on your mp3 player you could listen to the music anytime you wanted. I noticed about the technology that it was really good because the guy who was talking was up in space and when he talked it sounded pretty clear.

“This I Believe” essay that I listened to was called An Optimistic View of the World by Dan Tani. I selected this piece because it was the very first essay listed and I thought it had to be good. What stood out to me in this essay was that the guy was in space and he still could make a podcast. The aspect that was memorable to me was that his mother died in a car accident and he could not go down to honor her. What was effective about this piece was that it was kind of personal.

What I noticed about the introduction of the speech was that it was really attention getting. What was interesting about it is how he compared his job to others people’s jobs by saying some people travel in their jobs but not as much as I do or as fast.

This I believe response

A.) I know that podcasting is useful. It allows vast audiences to be influenced by your speech. It is a chance to make a difference. The sound quality is really great.

B.) I listened to David Copperfield’s “The Gift of Kindness” because it sounded interesting. Also, I’ve heard of David Copperfield. What stood out to me about his speech was how he described kindness and how he connected it to his father. The overall theme is memorable. It is effective in how he makes it feel like he is talking directly to you. His speech is something that can relate to anybody.

C.)
The introduction was very effective. He paints a picture of what kindness is and how the world treats it. I like how he says that no one respects the kind. The introduction sets the basis for the rest of the speech.

Response to podcasting and this i believe

My response to pod casting is that it could easily come in handy. I understand now that pod casting is like a song you can subscribe to it and even download it onto you portable music player. Also with pod casting people can respond to the pod cast threw the internet. What I noticed about the technology is that it’s very up to date with our generation. But many people that are older might not know about pod casting like younger teens do. I noticed that the sound is very clear. Especially for the one that was recorded in space. The sound was still clear and understandable.
I listened to the pod cast of Dan Tani and how he is optimistic. I choose this pod cast because it looked very interesting to hear about how some one thought they were optimistic. Some things, that stood out to me when listing to the pod cast was that he was in space when recording. Also, that his mother had died and he wasn’t able to go be at her funeral. The most memorable aspect was he is very trusting and he learned that from his mother. I noticed that in the introduction it was someone else talking about Dan. The introduction was interesting because Dan shared that he was in space rather than here on earth.

“This I Believe” response

The thinks that we need to under stand about this pod cast is that we don’t need to look at just our lives we need to look at everyone’s life. The technology is great. How he can be 200 miles above us and we can still hear him and he can still post stuff on the internet. The sounds were different. I listen to Dan Tani. I select this piece because it was the top and it looks very good. The thing that stand out the most to me is that he talks about every one else instead of him self. The aspects were that he can do this way up there. The message that he can put out there. That he grabbed you into the speech and about his life up in space.

IBELIEVE podcasts

I really enjoyed the thisIbelieve speeches. The wide range of topics on the website allowed you to find something that you liked. I listened to a speech by a college girl for her science class on climate change and enjoying and persevering life. The speech rally impacted me because 2 weeks after the essay for her class was turned in the girl was killed in a robber of a store she was in.

“This I Believe” Listening Response

“This I Believe” response

I’m beginning to understand podcasting now. I already knew a couple things about podcasting but now I feel like I’m learning more. I noticed that the speech I was listening to sounded like one of the mp3s I normally listen to on my iPod. The sound was clear and it didn’t even sound like someone recorded it through a microphone; it sounded like the speaker was in front of me speaking.
The essays I listened to were “Music Makes Me Come Alive” by Joan Tower and “Failure is a Good Thing” by Jon Carroll. I selected Joan Tower’s piece because I’m very interested in music. And I chose Jon Carroll’s piece because the title caught my attention. You rarely hear “failure is a good thing,” so with that interesting title, I decided I would read it. Both essays were very well written. I think Joan’s essay reflected on how most people feel about music. Like how it nourishes your inner soul and how you can relate yourself to other people you don’t even know through music. And I think Jon’s essay could really teach people a lesson. That failure isn’t as bad as people make it seem, you can actually learn from it.
The introduction of Joan’s speech talked about the importance of music in the world and the speech just continued on from there. It was a great way to begin an informative speech. And the introduction of Jon’s speech had his own personal story. He talked about his granddaughter starting kindergarten and how he hoped she would strive for failure, which to me, sounded odd. But it definitely caught my attention.

Cody’s This I Believe Reaction

A. Now I understand podcasting as a release. Many of the subjects that these people talked about are very personal – the death of a loved one, being away from home. Podcasting is a way of releasing these feelings, but at the same time, conveying a message. For the space station podcast, his voice sounded distant and far-off, which led me to believe that he really did record it there. The narration was also interesting. It served as good introductions and conclusions for the podcast – it was the icing on the cake.

B. I listened to Dan Tani’s “An Optimistic View of the World,” and Mary Cook’s “The Hardest Work You Will Every Do.” Truthfully, I selected these because they were the first two I noticed. But, at the same time, I was looking forward to listening, so I wanted to be quick. The label “Featured Essay of the Week” also caught my eye, and helped direct me. The situations in each essay stood out to me most; the events that happened to them caught my attention. Their points were memorable: the optimism and the surrender. They really got to me. The common conclusion of “I believe in…” is very effective – very dramatic.

C. The introductions provided an attention getter. They describe events that catch me, and also put the listener in the speaker’s life. They put the listeners in the speaker’s shoes. They give us an introduction of the person. The introductions also provide background information that makes it more interesting for the listener.
