Laughter
Everyone has laughed at one point or another. Laughter is something that comes naturally and is hard to fake. Laughter can make the worst moment seem significantly less severe. It can make you give up all anger and resentment for a moment and release all happy emotion. Everyone has a different laugh but the feeling is always the same. Glee I would say. It is simply an immense feeling of happiness. Laughter is a beautiful thing and without laughter my world would be a dark place.
My humor at times can come across as unsympathetic or unkind but it is all sincerely in jest. My childhood shadows many of the thoughts I have today and not always in a positive way. Years of being ridiculed and scolded has hardened my humor to a cold state of reasoning. I was raised on a dotted line of military bases that trail through Virginia, North Carolina and Michigan. In that atmosphere, humor was not always encouraged and in some cases it was punished. Despite my environment, humor was the seed of my entire personality which eventually developed into the free spirited, fun-loving person that I am every day. I have always had a good sense of humor despite the circumstances. Often times when I was younger I would laugh because it was the only thing to keep me from crying.
I love to tell jokes because it helps me meet people and feel more comfortable. Even if I don’t know someone personally, I know that everyone likes to laugh. I laugh every chance I get. I laugh because it helps me deal with life’s everyday problems. I laugh because of it reminds me of the good times. I laugh because of the good times soon to come. I laugh because there is nothing more powerful and contagious than laughter.
About Me.
My name is Lisa and i am a senior at Charlotte High School. I am attending EMU in the fall to study art. I traveled a lot as a child but for the last six years I have found myself comfortable in my first civilian house. This is the first podcast I have ever done and I think that it was pretty good for my first try.

Lisa,
Good for you! I appreciate how your essay reminds us to laugh. I’m always frustrated how comedians rarely receive SAG, Oscar, or other awards, when, I feel, humor requires a rare intelligence and timing. It’s a gift to have a family member, friend, teacher, coworker who is kind, intelligent, but that also makes us laugh.

lisa,
this was a really good blog expecially how you put a piece of your life into the blog. I can honestly say that people today are too uptight and sometimes just need to relax and not worry so much on how they look and if boys/girls are interested in them. I think if you just enjoy life then the chips will just fall at will. well thanks for writing this blog it is really insightful. hope you write more interesting and insightful pieces bye

Dear Lisa,
I liked your message, “This I believe” because I also feel that people need to laugh more and I also enjoy laughing to express myself. Being a comedian, so I try to bring laughter to those who feel like they can’t laugh or just want to laugh. I think if humor didn’t exist, laughter wouldn’t. If laughter did not exist, this world would submerge into an even more depressing state.

Dear Lisa:
I enjoyed your message, “Lisa’s “This I Believe” essay,” because without laughter I think the world would be a terrible place,
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “Laughter is something that comes naturally and is hard to fake” I think its true because I never seen a fake laugh before.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next.

Laughter can make the worst moment less severe, like when I blacked out, dropped my oboe, and broke it. My mother’s response was “Thanks for making this S&E experience completly different from all the others we’ve seen over the years.” then my grandpa said, “When we say “Knock yourself out” we don’t mean it literally.” That did make me feel better about my entire situation. You and I have almost the same sense of humor…but I’m just louder about it!

Your very right Lisa, in that laughter changes the worst to “less severe.” It was sad when you said your laughter or other’s laughter was punished in some cases.

I really liked your topic for your “This I Believe”. Every time I try to think about a topic, it really isn’t me. But laughing, I love to laugh! So does everyone. Because of that, I don’t think there’s a single person who wouldn’t enjoy your essay. It actually made me think about my day, and it made me realize that I don’t laugh enough. Thanks Lisa.

I couldn’t help but smile when I heard this, because I understand completely that laughter is always good. Just a tiny little giggle and I feel better for hours. Thank you for reminding me of the power of laughter.
